Selecting a high-yielding, disease-resistant variety like Synergy Gold can make all the difference. Bold-seeded varieties with 42%+ oil content not only yield more but fetch better market prices.
The optimal sowing window for mustard in Rajasthan is October 15 to November 5. Every week of delay can reduce yield by 5-8%. Use seed treatment with Thiram @ 3g/kg before sowing.
Apply 80 kg Nitrogen, 40 kg Phosphorus, and 20 kg Sulphur per hectare. Split nitrogen application — half at sowing and half at first irrigation — ensures better utilization.
Mustard needs 2-3 irrigations at critical stages: pre-flowering (35-40 DAS), pod formation (65-70 DAS), and grain filling (90-95 DAS). Avoid irrigation during flowering as it promotes aphid infestation.
Monitor for aphids from January onwards. Spray Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.5ml/L at economic threshold level (50 aphids per plant). Neem-based sprays can be used as a preventive measure.
