Guar gum, extracted from guar seeds, is used in oil drilling, food processing, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. India dominates global guar production, and Rajasthan alone contributes over 70% of the national output.
Branching-type varieties like Synergy Guar X-10 are preferred for higher gum content and better yield. Single-stem varieties like Synergy Guar X-28 are ideal for close-spacing and mechanized harvesting.
Sow guar in July with the onset of monsoon. Use a seed rate of 15-20 kg/ha at 30 cm row spacing. Guar being a legume requires minimal nitrogen — apply 20 kg N and 40 kg P2O5 per hectare.
Guar prices are volatile and linked to global crude oil prices (guar gum is used in oil drilling). Store your produce if prices are low at harvest time — guar seeds can be safely stored for 6-12 months.
